Teaching Music
Why is it that teaching music still intimidates me? I sing, well usually… this cold/whatever it is has made it hard the last couple of weeks. But I have sung ever since I was a little girl. I have played Violin since I was in 4th grade and began lessons. Although I have let that lapse since I went to college. I have girls who are very musical and LOVE to sing and play their toy piano, any of the musical play instruments that we have and the real piano as well. At least one thinks she wants to play the violin.
The day to day of homeschooling, especially since I’ve been not feeling well makes sometimes even the basics of math, reading, and reading books aloud to them (darn impossible when your voice is not cooperating) sometimes is overwhelming. I’m trying to change my attitude on that and hope I will have things in place when hubby returns to work for the Spring semester for teaching which will make the day to day stuff easier. Right now its get better and try to concentrate on the fact that Christmas is… oh… only 16 days away! Eeeks!!!
Anyway… why did I decide tonight of all nights to write a post about the thought of teaching music to my kids? Well even though there are close to 0 readers of this blog that I’m trying to restart, it looks like if I write a blog post about this music program I can gain 10 entries to win it. So guess what I’m doing it. 🙂
New Song Music is a bit of a different program. The teacher comes to the student. Well I’m already here with my kids and since we are currently a one car family this would work REALLY well for us. The kit that she has created is aimed at students 4-8 years old to learn the fundamentals of music.
I love the look of some (okay all) of this kit. The gloves with the letters of the notes attached, the foam shapes to create your music, the bean bags, the fact that it appears to come in a little suitcase that just looks so cute! Yes I could make some of this and yes it would probably save me money, especially since I would have two that I would be teaching at once. But it is the activity book I want to have. And time wise, everything is something I’d love to have. I want to create stuff for my kids from scratch but I haven’t been too good at getting that going.
We will see what God has in store and maybe just maybe I could use something like this to help other homeschooling parents who just don’t have a way to get their kids to lessons themselves. Or who are just too tired because the little one will not sleep. This is the third time she is up as I’m trying to write this post.
So I’m back again. So as I was saying… We will see. I know I need to teach the girls music, they love music and often make up their own songs about everything and anything. I figure the time it takes to write this post is worth the try at the giveaway. 🙂
