Homeschooling Wins This Week
Our weekly wrap-up. This week (ending 4/1/17) has been one of those with some wins and some not so wins.
Curriculum (win)
We received our new books for our Beast Academy curriculum which the girls have been waiting for. With this arrival I had three books for Miss C to go through, or get mostly through before I would have to get more. I think this was a very good thing.
This week on Tuesday I sat down with each girl, looked at their chapter in the book to decide on a pacing that we could both agree with. Miss C did her first day. On day 2, so Wednesday, she mistakenly looked at her post it (where I had put the layout for what to do each day) and thought she had to do pages 9-16 instead of problems 9-16. BIG difference. So by the time she got done on Wednesday she did problems 9-96. I was shocked. I also wondered if she would even touch the book the rest of the week. Yep. Thursday she sat down and finished chapter 7 (problems 97-131) and started chapter 8 doing problems 1-49. Wow. She is really enjoying the curriculum and I’m so happy to see her flying through it. She thinks it’s great.
Mindsets (not so winning)
This week has been a struggle as far as mindsets in some ways. Starting this week the next month is absolutely crazy. Mr. Marbles is away or has an event happening for three of the five weekends in April and I have an event on one of his free ones. Knowing this is all upcoming made the beginning of the week a bit more difficult. We wanted to enjoy the time that we had together as a family. So where we might have focused on something else we just simply spent time together.
Then after the week began, meaning after Mr. Marbles left for the week as per usual on Wednesday actually doing school items was a bit of a struggle for some, the middle two mainly. I think this weekend we are going to take it easy and get back into things on Monday.
Especially as I try to finish up this post to get it out today I’m finding myself struggling as Mr. Marbles was only home for a few hours really, just over 15? While we will see him as we visit his event this weekend, it is not the same as he will not be home until Tuesday afternoon, just to turn around and leave again Wednesday morning.
Self-Care (win)
This week I had the blessing of my youngest begging a friend for a play-date a few weeks ago. She is wonderful with the girls and so she did, she got out her calendar so we could tell Miss M that we had a play-date on X date. During this play-date of a few hours they got to craft a lot. I managed to shower in peace… any mom knows that is a blessing. I also had scheduled a hair appointment and got my hair cut for the first time in two years. Wow. A lot has happened since that picture on the right, although except the glasses (new frames) I look pretty much the same. I also managed to run a few errands without dragging the kids all out with me.
This coming week, our neighbor who loves having the girls visit has already requested an afternoon with them so I will get that on Monday, giving me a few hours break with only the youngest.
I’m also determined to be writing more this month. Hence the determination to get this post up tonight. Even if the pictures aren’t all pretty and everything is all “perfect”. That will never happen. I want to write, so write I shall.
One thing that will make that sooooo much easier is we managed to score a new computer for me from a friend who didn’t need the one he purchased just before he got a new job, where they provided him with a laptop. Although I’m still working back and forth between the two as I find product keys to set everything up, the fact that I can now take a laptop anywhere… upstairs, the couch, wherever I want and can type an access the web on an actual keyboard and computer is huge.
My computer, my older one, has served well and will continue to. But it is over 9 years old, and with the battery it serves as a desktop as you cannot even boot it up with the battery it has. It also weighs a lot.
So yes I’m putting my improved technology under self-care. 🙂
Self-Care (not so winning)
I had wanted to get a Fit2B workout in each day this week {affiliate link}. This did not happen. 🙁 Hopefully the coming week I can do better. Tonight after I get the smallest down I might do a relaxation routine, probably a good thing before driving tomorrow. Falling asleep the first night Mr. Marbles is gone is always harder.
And on that note, I’m going to end this, get my kids ready for bed and get ready for our busy day tomorrow.
Blessings
